Resources

Here at MountainMomandTots.com, I believe that in order to explore outdoors, families need three things –

This resources page is the cheat sheet version of fulfilling all three needs. A Friend and Mentor Inspires Outdoor Adventure

I want to be your outdoor friend and mentor to help your family explore outdoors. That’s why I created Mountain Mom and Tots monthly Outdoor Adventures, designed to inspire you to get outdoors with kids. Every month, I’ll email you an outdoor adventure that will:

  1. Require you to get outside.
  2. Be something you can do with kids.
  3. Cost little or nothing to complete.

It’s totally FREE to participate in my monthly outdoor adventures. Just sign up in the box above.

Helping Families Explore Outdoors facebook group

In addition to monthly outdoor adventures, I started the Helping Families Explore Outdoors facebook group as a place to connect with other outdoor families. Meet new friends. Find a mentor. Share your outdoor successes and failures.

It’s a totally free resource designed to help more families explore outdoors.

Psst…you can support the Helping Families Explore Outdoors facebook group’s continued existence by becoming a Mountain Mom and Tots patron for as little as $1 per month.

Information

If you want to explore outdoors you’ve gotta know some things. Information is power, so in addition to writing blog posts on hiking, biking, camping, skiing and family travel, I’ve also created outdoor activities designed with you in mind.

Motherhood moment essays show the funny and tender side of outdoor family adventure while the Mountain Mom and Tots outdoor printables give you a tangible outdoor activity you can accomplish with your child.

Mountain Mom and Tots Outdoor Book Club

Another way to provide information on how to explore outdoors with kids is through good, ol’ fashioned books. I LOVE reading and sharing my favorite reads with all of you.

Visit my Mountain Mom and Tots Book Club page as well as my Amazon.com Book Recommendation Page for the most up-to-date info on great outdoor reads.

In addition to reading good books, in 2019 I wrote a rough draft of my own outdoor adventure memoir, thanks to the support of Mountain Mom and Tots patrons also known as my favorite people in the world. I’ll be working through the completed manuscript in the first half of 2020. Thanks to them, I was able to focus on my first true love, writing funny and poignent stories about my kids.

Adequate Gear

Feeling comfortable while hiking, biking, camping, skiing or traveling makes all the difference when exploring outdoors as a family. It’s no fun to be outside if anyone is hungry, cold or hurting in some way.

Now, you don’t need the most expensive or the newest outdoor gear (the sleeping bag I use is over 15 years old), but quality outdoor gear makes a BIG difference. I believe in living zero waste as much as possible, so I recommend buying previously-loved outdoor gear, avoiding disposible or easily breakable gear and maintaining the outdoor gear you already have so it lasts a lifetime as much as possible.

To see all the gear my family uses and loves, visit mountainmomandtots.com/gear or my Mountain Mom and Tots shop on Amazon.com.

Yes, those pages are chock full of affiliate links, which means Mountain Mom and Tots receives a little commission if you make a qualifying purchase after clicking my link. If you ever buy anything from amazon.com (it doesn’t have to be outdoors related) or one of the following affiliate partners, please consider clicking through these links first. One little click can help even more families explore outdoors.

That’s it! If you’ve got a friend to inspire you, information and adequate gear, you’re prepped to explore outdoors as a family!

See you in the outdoors,

~Mountain Mom
