New Year, New Gear

Sharing is caring:

There’s a Scandinavian saying, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.” I agree that having the right clothes for every kind of weather makes exploring outdoors as a family possible.

Here are some favorite pieces that Adidas Terrex sent me to review. They’ll soon be going up on my gear recommendation page, because I LOVE these items so much. They’ll help your family explore outdoors all year long too. Check it out!

Winter Gear

Mens Climaheat Jacket

With 800 fill goose down and a water resistant finish, this Climaheat Jacket is everything you want for winter. Super warm, but breathable. Packable and lightweight. Mountain Dad raves about this jacket!

Winter Tubing

Whether you’re skiing, snowblowing or tubing behind a UTV in rural Idaho, the Mens Climaheat Jacket will not disappoint.

Price: $349

Womens All Season Pant

This lightweight, fleece-lined, DWR (durable water repellant) All Season Pant keeps you dry in the outdoors. Seriously. They’re light enough to wear on their own hiking in light rain or running in your neighborhood, or add a base layer and go cross country skiing or even snowboarding in the Tetons!

Snowboarding at Grand Targhee Resort

NOTE: While I wore the waterproof All Season Pant as an outer layer for snowboarding and they worked GREAT at keeping me warm and dry, they aren’t designed to fit over ski or snowboarding boots. For that, try the Adidas Terrex Womens Ski Touring pant.

Price: $119

Terrex Snow CF CP CW Kids Boot

Little G loves these Terrex Snow Kids boots. With a Climaproof membrane for waterproof protection and a Traxion outsole for maximum grip, these boots will keep her little toes warm and dry all while giving her sturdy traction in slick conditions.

My favorite feature? The single velcro enclosure strap. It makes bundling up for winter play one step easier.

Spring Gear

Womens Agravic Trail Running Tights

The Womens Agravic Trail Running Tights have a warm fleece liner and a wind resistant overlay. At first I wan’t sure why there was an extra layer of fabric on front of the pants, but wearing it outside, it was easy to see why this extra layer was there – added protection against the elements.

I like the fit of these tights and the ankle zip. They worked well as a base layer for winter or a stand alone tight for cool weather adventures.

Trail running gear

Womens Icesky Long Sleeve

I love this Womens Icesky long sleeve fleece as a midlayer for skiing, but it would also work great for a warm spring sweater. Why do I like it? It’s warm, got an awesome design and it makes me feel cool.

Price: $79

Climb the City Wool Crew

This relaxed fit fleece is warm and comfy. With stretch inserts at the sleeves and a side zipper pocket it’s got a good fit that is great for spring layering. I like the unique cut of the Climb the City Wool Crew (87% polyester, 13% wool) but my husband says it makes me look like a medic from the TV show Star Trek Next Generation.

Summer Gear

Five Ten Mens Hellcat Pro Mountain Biking shoes

We are big fans of five ten mountain biking shoes around here. I have a pair of the Womens Freerider Pros and love, love, love them. At first I didn’t think that dedicated mountain biking shoes would be that different from tennis shoes, but ever since the first time I tried my Freeriders I was hooked. What do I like?

  • Rubberized sole has amazing grip. There’s no slipping on the pedals with these shoes.
  • Relaxed style makes it easy to wear off the bike as well.
  • Color. I’m a fan of bright.

Five Ten Mens Hellcat Pro and Mens Maltese Falcon Mountain Biking Shoe

Mountain Dad is excited to try out the Mens Hellcat Pro shoes because not only do they have the same great features as above, but they are designed to be clipless.

Clipless is an odd misnomer – the shoes will allow you to clip in directly to the pedal of your bike, giving you more control while you ride, but potentially making you fall if you can’t get your foot out fast enough. They take some practice to get used to, which we plan to do on our upcoming multi-month RV adventure to the southwesten US in early 2019.

Womens Agravic Parley Tee

This is absolutely the coolest shirt I’ve ever worn. Why? It’s made from recycled ocean plastic!

Seriously. Adidas participates in the Parley for the Oceans movement, where they collect recyclable plastic from ocean coastlines and repurpose it into high quality outdoor gear. Adidas’ Parley initiative is helping prevent plastic pollution from entering our oceans.

PLUS the Womens Agravic Parley tee is a great lightweight, breathable shirt, perfect for hiking, yoga, running and exercise. I’m looking forward to packing this one for our RV travels.

Price: $35

Womens Climb the City Tights

These Climb the City tights pants are great for yoga, hiking, and outdoor exercise. They’re stretchy, lightweight, and comfortable – even when you wear them backwards like I did accidentally for this photo. They were so comfortable I didn’t even notice they were backwards until I changed several hours later. Ha!

I just wish they had pockets big enough for my phone. They have a security back pocket with an integrated key loop but my Samsung s8 active is too big for it.

Price $59

Mens Tivid Tee

This Climalite Mens Tivid tee is a great lightweight shirt for men. Also made from recycled polyester (86%) it features wicking moisture control. Mountain Dad likes that it’s a true XXL, not just a slightly enlarged shirt made for a skinny man.

Fall Gear

In autumn you need gear that layers easily. That’s why I like these pieces.

Mens Terrex Tracerocker 1/2 Zip

The Terrex Tracerocker 1/2 Zip is a lightweight fleece that works great as a baselayer. Climalite material sweeps away sweat and the 1/2 zip allow for venting. It’s a new fave for Mountain Dad.

Price: $55

Womens Knit Fleece Jacket

This full zip Womens Knit Fleece jacket has a warm fleece interior and a knitted exterior, giving a cozy, stylish sweater option for those cool autumn nights. The zippered pockets keep my valuables safe and the elastic cuffs and low turtle collar keep the cool out.

Price: $89

Womens Alphaskin Sports Bra

This sports bra works for any season, it’s comfortable, supportive and breathable. I especially like the Alphaskin Sports Bra’s soft touch bra elastic and the fact that it’s got Climacool breathable mesh for moisture management.

Why I Like Adidas Terrex Gear

I’ve been so impressed with the gear that adidas Outdoors sent to review. It’s well-designed with materials and features that make sense for outdoor use. Their winter gear is warm, and comfortable. Their summer and training clothes breathable and lightweight.

In addition to having top notch gear, I’m impressed with how Adidas is committed to the environment. 2018 saw Adidas working hard to achieve it’s Better Cotton Initiative goal, to source 100% of its cotton from sustainable sources. They’ve implemented water saving strategies to make their water use more efficient, opening up more fresh water for other uses.

And they recycle ocean garbage and turn it into clothes! The Parley for the Oceans movement collects recyclable plastic from ocean coastlines and repurposes it into high quality outdoor gear.

Just think. Your shoes could save a sea animal’s life.
